This game is mind-boggling, and fantastic for that trait. Without “googling” walkthroughs or solutions to puzzles, the game took me 4 hours in one sitting to complete.
Key things about the game that makes it amazing:
It consistently makes you think.
It has a Psychology Warning on it.
It keeps “rollercoasting” you emotionally.
It’s plot is developed very well, as are it’s characters.
To be fair, key things about the game that make it frustrating.
The game can get very frustrating at times.
Being “on edge” for 99% of the time can become very stressful.
The game takes you back to the first Silent Hill and tells it in a different perspective. And while it still holds the horror that the Silent Hill’s before it have generated, Shattered Memories takes the game in a different direction.
Shattered Memories literately profiles the player while they are playing- the game plays you as much as you play it. The player should and can expect each decision made during the game to not only affect the end result of the game, but the subtle details and sometimes the-not-so subtle details of the game- in addition, the credits bring a pleasant surprise to the player.
Of course, being a game in the Silent Hill series, Shattered Memories has it’s fair share of scares and spooks. Most of the game’s terror lies behind it’s scenery and ambiance- the suspense that brought “The Blair Witch Project” to life is brought to life here too. In addition to nail-biting suspense, the “Nightmare Sequences” can certainly cause serious emotional turmoil to the player.
For anyone that enjoys multiple mind-bending twists in a game, I would certainly recommend Shattered Memories. I give it a personal score of 9.99/10.
